Medical Mission

By Melva Javier
January 24, 2008
Growing up in the Philippines with limited resources, I aspired to do something with myself to improve the quality of my life. I chose the direction of profession in Medical Technology inspired by an older town mate that had earned my respect and admiration. I pursued my career goals and came to the United States, where I met my town mates and we started to form an organization to take our talents and services back home where medical care is not readily available.

We solicited donations from companies who donated medicine, medical equipment and medical supplies. With the help of local public and health officials, we were able to accomplish our dream to serve our people. Our primary goal was to screen for diabetes, anemia and hypertension and provide education on nutrition, prevention and maintenance. We set up our clinic in a civic auditorium. We were swamped with all kind of ailments from colds to dental work. We saw approximately 200 people a day until we exhausted our supplies. Our team of doctors- a Cardiologist, a Pediatrician local Dentist, and General Practitioners, Nurses, Medical Technologists and Volunteers who traveled with us made our mission a success.
